Despite Jerusalem's stout fortifications, the Babylonian army, equipped with advanced siege weaponry, gradually weakened the jerusalem city's defenses. Eventually, the walls were breached, and Nebuchadnezzar's forces stormed into Jerusalem, capturing the city and taking many of its inhabitants into captivity.
